Young dry bulk carrier Scorpio Bulkers is now entering the segment for the biggest dry bulk ships with an order for three Capesize ships, says the company in a press release. The carrier has made a deal with South Korean shipyard Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co., which will handle the construction of the 180,000 dwt ships. The ships will be built at the yard's subsidiary in Romania.

The ships cost USD 162 million all together, and the first two will be delivered in the fourth quarter 2015 and the last one is set for delivery in the first quarter 2016. The order follows a series of other major orders placed by Scorpio Bulkers in recent months. In total, the carrier has contracts and orders for 26 Ultramax ships and 10 Kamsarmax newbuildings, set for delivery from the first quarter 2015 from shipyards in Japan and China. As such, the company does not have any ships at this point.
