The road to the IMO's seat of power

Denmark's Andreas Nordseth will have to go through several appointments and votes before he can sit down at the head of the table as Secretary General of the IMO. And he will also be running against other prime candidates for the job. Read on to learn who:

Director General of the Danish Maritime Authority, Andreas Nordseth, was officially named as candidate for the job as Secretary General of the IMO on Thursday afternoon. But there is a long way to go from being nominated and to actually being elected Secretary General.

The IMO Council - the organization's highest ranking body, which consists of members from 40 nations - will meet in December this year. Here the Council will set a deadline for when nominations for the job must be submitted. According to the IMO's press office, the submission deadline will likely be March 31. 2015.
