IMO wants industry's help with ballast water

Ahead of the ratification of the convention on ballast water, the IMO is asking the industry to help out by performing a survey of all the approved systems.

The International Maritime Organization, IMO is now asking everyone with an interest in ballast water - in testing, approval, installation and not least those operating the systems - to take part in an online survey.

According to the IMO, the study aims to do a thorough review of the technical standards and approval procedures in the guidelines that are in effect for approval of the ballast water systems. At the latest meeting of the IMO's Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC), ballast water was at the top of the agenda, as it constitutes a concern for numerous players in the industry which for years been have waiting for final ratification of the convention.
