Shipowners open to reversed burden of proof

Enforcement of sulfur regulations would be more effective if carriers themselves had to prove that they were complying with requirements, says the OECD. The Danish Shipowners' Association is prepared to discuss the idea ahead of 2020 when global sulfur regulations will likely take effect.

It will definitely be deliberated whether or not carriers should be given the burden of proof when the international sulfur regulations come into force in 2020, says the Danish Shipowners' Association in reaction to an OECD report which proposed that the carriers themselves should prove going forward whether or not they are in compliance with the requirements for sulfur emissions.
