EU fears tonnage tax exploitation in several countries

According to Director of the EU Commission, Henrik Mørch, many EU nations are on the periphery of state aid regulations, because tonnage tax regimes have been expanded to include more than was originally intended, such as offshore, writes Lloyd's List.

Several member nations of the European Union are challenging the favorable tonnage taxation and expanding the tax regime to benefit activities that are not part of shipping with the state aid program that requires approval from the EU Commission, noted Henrik Mørch, Director of the EU Commission's Competition Directorate, recently at the European Maritime Law Organization's annual conference in London, reports Lloyd's List.
