Equity funds prepare for next major entry into shipping

Although many equity funds suffered big losses in shipping, these funds now seem to be increasingly involved in solving the struggles for German banks in 2017. One of the largest equity funds is gearing up with the recruitment of former Frontline CEO Jens Martin Jensen.

The recruitment of former Frontline CEO Danish Jens Martin Jensen, into the executive team of US-based equity fund KKR's London-based business unit Pillarstone, looks like a significant strengthening of the fund's activities in shipping. A setup established in 2015 with goals including investments in the shipping industry by buying loans from German and other European banks which after massive losses are working intensively to reduce their exposure in vessels.
