Tax breaks make shipowners flag German again

Germany's new tax rules, which include a net wage scheme, have spurred heavy lift carrier SAL to return six vessels to German flag, the carrier tells ShippingWatch. "The rules are starting to have a certain effect," says the German shipowners' association.

The German maritime sector is starting to note a certain effect emerge after the country's government in the summer 2016 decided to improve the tax conditions for the shipping sector, a move that included the introduction of a net wage scheme similar to the ones in Norway and Denmark.
