Maersk to invest significant sums in container logistics

First Maersk said that it would only invest in smaller and select logistics businesses. But now the company enters a new phase where it will power up its investments significantly in the new priority area.

Maersk will no longer just invest in smaller and select logistics businesses to supplement its combined container and logistics setup that was launched last year with the integration of Maersk Line and Damco.

Since then, the company has often been asked whether it would consider a more massive approach with larger investments, as seen in for instance competitor CMA CGM's acquisition of Ceva Logistics last year. But CEO Søren Skou has till now rejected this notion.

3i buys AMP out of Esvagt

Private equity firm 3i, which owns half of carrier Esvagt, has agreed with the company's second owner, AMP Capital, to take over all of Esvagt for GBP 268 million, making 3i the sole owner. The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2022.
