OECD report criticizes LNG and methanol for not being climate-friendly fuels

LNG and methanol, produced by using fossil fuels, is not much better than conventional bunker oil when it comes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, concludes new report from International Transport Forum under OECD.


The global shipping industry faces tough choices and big changes in terms of contributing to a reduction of harmful greenhouse gas emissions.

The road to a 50 percent reduction in emissions of greenhouse gases by 2050 at the latest, the target set by IMO, means that the shipping sector needs to start sailing on more environmentally friendly fuels than the traditional bunker oil.
