Report shows very little sampling of ship ballast water

To a great extent, ships are living up to tightened environmental requirements for ballast water, according to a report. However, it’s very rare for authorities to actually take water samples from ships, to the surprise of Australia. Shipowners say the report provides a ”hopeful and positive snapshot.”

The vast majority get the thumbs up when ships around the world are inspected for stricter environmental requirements on ballast water – but it is extremely rare that an inspection actually results in samples being taken of the ballast water from a ship.
