Wärtsilä to choose new fuels within few years

Wärtsilä will select new fuels for testing within the next few years. The engine technology is already good, but now it is all about flexibility, says Roger Holm, Wärtsilä's president of Marine Power.

In the coming three years, Finnish technology group Wärtsilä will highlight new fuels to be tested for use by the shipping industry.

Right now, the entire industry is wondering what will become shipping's fuel of the future. By 2050, shipping must have reduced its CO2 emissions by 50 percent, and this is only attainable if ships stop burning bunker oil.

3i buys AMP out of Esvagt

Private equity firm 3i, which owns half of carrier Esvagt, has agreed with the company's second owner, AMP Capital, to take over all of Esvagt for GBP 268 million, making 3i the sole owner. The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2022.
