Europe lacks scrapping yards – needs more yards in Asia

The EU should approve major shipbreaking yards in Asia to accommodate Europe’s need for approved yards with the capacity to scrap large merchant vessels, says Bimco.

There is a vast shortage of shipbreaking yards accommodating large merchant vessels in Europe, and the European Union should therefore start approving some of the major scrapping yards in Asia, where the majority of the world’s scrap-ready ships end up.
