The 65 steel producing countries that report to the World Steel Association produced a total of 139 million tons (Mt) in May 2015, a 2.1 percent decline from the same period last year.
The world's largest steel producer, China, registered a reduced output of 70 Mt, a 1.7 percent decrease compared to May 2014, notes the World Steel Association in an update on Monday.
