Ballast water convention will come into force in September 2017

After years of discussions and considerations, the ballast water convention has now been ratified by the sufficient number of countries and can come into force one year from now. However shipowners see massive challenges ahead.

Finland on Thursday ratified the IMO's ballast water convention, and with its 0.14 percent of the global tonnage, Finland delivered the decisive push enabling the convention to come into force one year from today – on September 8th 2017.
