Clarksons: Shipping had its best year in 2021 since 2008

2021 was the most profitable year for the shipping industry since 2008, writes Clarksons. Two segments in particular pull the industry up.

Following a tormented 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, the shipping industry sky-rocketed in 2021, ending with the highest earnings for the entire sector in 13 years, writes analyst firm Clarksons Platou based on its data for the year.

Clarksons' index ClarkSea – which covers the entire shipping industry – hit an average of USD 28,700 daily in 2021, an increase of 93 percent compared to 2020, and the highest level since 2008.
