Russian coal exports wane as capesize tonne-mile rises

The EU ban on Russian coal has led to a drop in Russia’s coal exports, show numbers from Bimco, as the country has difficulty finding new buyers. Conversely, Russian coal needs to travel on longer voyages, which has increased tonne-mile demand.

The European Union’s many sanctions against Russia have also impacted the country’s coal exports, which year-to-date have dived by 6 percent, show numbers from shipping organization Bimco.
