New heavy lift pool wants more carriers to join

"The plan with this collaboration is for more carriers to join in, and we'd like to see that happen," says BBC Chartering CEO Svend Andersen, who does not expect significant market improvements in 2014 and 2015.

The market for multipurpose and heavy lift will likely not see any significant improvements this year or in 2015 in the guise of improved rates, Svend Andersen, CEO of BBC Chartering, tells ShippingWatch following the announcement of a new pool collaboration between Briese Schiffahrt and Harren & Partner with 15 vessels so far that will be operated by their respective companies, BBC Chartering and Combi Lift.

"With the volume we have in the market it would be possible to create some higher rates, but something else will need to happen," says Svend Andersen, pointing to an increased consolidation in an extremely short-sighted market where it is almost impossible to predict developments just a few months ahead.
