
There were great expectations in 2012 for an imminent rebound within the circle of specialised carriers that can transport large and heavy structures for industries such as offshore windmills and construction.
But things went completely bad during the last two months of 2012, and 2013 did not become the turning point for owners and operators of heavy lift carriers the industry had hoped for. So very far from it, in the words of Svend Andersen, CEO and co-owner of German BBC Chartering, headquartered in Leer at the mouth of the Ems River on the edge of the North Sea, approx. 180 kilometres west of Hamburg.
