Hapag-Lloyd continues heavy losses

German Hapag-Lloyd continues its heavy losses and the carrier suffered a net deficit of EUR 224 million in the first nine months of the year. 2015 will be another challenging year, says CEO Rolf Habben Jansen in a statement.

Hapag-Lloyd suffered a net deficit of EUR 224 million in the first nine months of the year, a significant decline compared to the same period last year, where the carrier lost EUR 56.1 million. The carrier achieved an operating profit of EUR 33.1 million in the 3rd quarter.

The carrier's revenue came to EUR 4.9 billion, down 2.5 percent compared to last year, and operating profit (EBITDA) decreased from EUR 305.4 million in the first nine months of 2013 to EUR 178.6 million this year.
