Container rates hit by new severe decline

Rates on Asia-North Europe took a dive this week of 14.4 percent to an all-time low of USD 399 per teu. This is the eleventh consecutive week with rate declines on Asia-North Europe, which in this period has fallen by a total of 65 percent.

The prices for container freight on the world seas experienced a severe decline this week and freight rates hereby reached a new all-time low. Especially the important services for Maersk Line between Asia and North Europe are pulling rates down.

This week's calculation of the SCFI index from the Shanghai Shipping Exchange showed on Friday showed a drop of 9 percent, and the index which shows spot prices for container freight on 15 different routes from Shanghai to the rest of the world thus took a dive down to 721.61 - the lowest level ever.
