Long way to profits for Maersk's new container factory

The production of reefer containers at the Maersk Group's new factory in Chile has been launched, and the first orders have been effectuated. But it will take years before MCI can deliver a profit. ShippingWatch has visited the factory in San Antonio.


South America is a container continent. One does not have to drive far between the major port cities and mega cities in countries such as Chile and Brazil before one is either overtaken - or trapped - by one of the many thousands of trucks that daily transport twenty-foot or forty-foot containers from the ports.
