Minister rules out major Korean shipping merger

South Korea's Minister of Oceans and Fisheries stresses to local media that a merger of the country's two major shipping groups would harm the country's import and export. That would be the equivalent of leaving the container market, he says. The government is prepared to help.

The rumors of an approaching merger between South Korea's two state-owned shipping groups, Hanjin Shipping and Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM), have now been brushed off by the country's Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, Kim Young-suk.
