
Teekay Tankers, listed on the New York Stock Exchange, has acquired five recently-built Aframax tanker vessels from German KG companies for a total price of USD 230 million. The ships, of which four are coated and can also operate in the product tanker segment, will be delivered in the 1st quarter 2015 and will sail in the Teekay-headed Taurus LR2 Pool and Aframax RSA.
According to Kevin Mackay, CEO of Teekay Tankers, the five vessels - built in the period 2008-2011 - were purchased at an attractive price and the acquisition will push the carrier's fleet to 43 vessels:
