Svitzer still exploring the benefits of autonomous sailing

Despite tests and progress in remote-controlled vessels, Maersk Group's carrier Svitzer is still exploring the actual benefits in sailing autonomous vessels,  COO Leonardo Sonzio tells ShippingWatch. However, he stresses that the area is "too big not to be explored."

Maersk Group's Svitzer is among the companies currently exploring and testing what many would refer to as the next technological revolution in the shipping industry. Yet the carrier still has still not figured out the clear advantages of autonomous vessels.
