Number of pirate attacks in Gulf of Guinea still declining

No crews on merchant vessels were abducted anywhere in the world during Q1 2022. That’s the first time since 2010, writes the International Maritime Bureau (IMB) in its quarterly report.

The number of pirate attacks in the Gulf of Guinea continues to drop, coming all the way down to seven in this year’s first quarter – against 16 in the corresponding quarter of 2021. The International Maritime Bureau (IMB) ascribes the decline to the efforts of both ”regional and international navies” in the fight against piracy.
