Scorpio in new giant VLCC order

Just when it seemed that Scorpio had tired of the newbuilding market for 2013, the New York/Monaco-based shipping company has ordered seven VLCC's and eight bulk vessels, for a total price of around USD 850 million.

Scorpio Tankers is placing around USD 650 in the somewhat struggling market for supertankers. In a statement the carrier announces that it has made a deal with Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co., Ltd. and Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries for the construction of seven VLCC's for a total price of around USD 652.5 million.

The first ship is set for delivery in the third quarter 2015, two in the fourth quarter 2015, two more in the first quarter 2016, and the last two will be delivered in the fourth quarter 2016.
