Maersk is the only named carrier so far to publicly support the efforts to form an industry alliance aimed at ensuring that the authorities manage to properly enforce the new sulphur regulations.
However, the so-called 'Trident Alliance' is not yet a reality, Niels Bjørn Mortensen, Head of Maersk Maritime Technology's devision for regulatory affairs, tells ShippingWatch. But Maersk has agreed to facilitate a meeting about the alliance in Copenhagen in a few weeks - a meeting where the biggest carriers are allegedly expected to participate.
