The final route for the USD 40 billion Nicaragua Canal has been approved. As ShippingWatch reported on Monday, the plan was presented yesterday by president Daniel Ortega and the Chinese CEO of the project development. The plan was subsequently approved by a committee consisting of government officials, businessmen and academics, according to Reuters.
The 278 kilometer long canal will run from the mouth of the Brito river by Pacific to the Punto Gorda river on the Caribbean side, as was proposed by the Chinese company HK Nicaragua Canal Development Investment.
