Robert Maersk Uggla will step down as CEO of the Maersk Group's towage and salvage unit Svitzer.

On September 1st 2016 he will take over as CEO of A.P. Møller Holding A/S, which is the A.P. Møller Foundation's holding and investment company.

The new CEO of Svitzer will be the current Chief Executive of Damco America, Henriette H. Thygesen, informs the carrier in a press release.

Uggla, grandson of shipowner Maersk McKinney-Møller, began his career in the financial sector before joining A.P. Moeller-Maersk in 2004, where he has since then served in various capacities. He has worked with acquisitions for Maersk Line and other subsidiaries, he has served as CEO of Maersk Line's activities in the Arabian Gulf and as head of Swedish Broström's tanker activities. He was named CEO of Svitzer in 2012, a carrier with around 500 vessels operating in 120 ports, employing 4,000 people.

"Given the development of A.P. Møller Holding, now is the right time to strengthen the organization, starting with the recruitment of a new CEO. The Board of A.P. Møller Holding looks forward to working with the new CEO and the future management team to further develop our ownership and investment strategy," says his mother, Ane M. M. Uggla, Chairman of A.P. Møller Holding.

Robert Maersk Uggla has the following comment:

"I am very grateful for my 12 years in A.P. Møller - Mærsk. During this period, I have been engaged in vastly different and highly exciting assignments. I have worked with great colleagues from all corners of the world, and it’s not easy to leave an organization like Svitzer with some of the most engaged and passionate colleagues I have ever come across. At the same time, I am looking forward to building a new team and developing the strategy for A.P. Møller Holding."

Henriette H. Thygesen has been with Maersk for 22 years, of which she has spent the past nine years at Damco. She holds a Master in Science, a PhD in Applied Mathematics and an Executive MBA from Columbia University, New York and London Business School.

"With her extensive global experience and strong leadership capabilities, she will focus on the continued growth of Svitzer and top-quartile performance,” says Morten H. Engelstoft, Chairman of the Board of Svitzer.

In a comment, Maersk Group CEO Niels Smedegaard Andersen thanks Robert Maersk Uggla for the 12 years of service.
