Wärtsilä lands preliminary agreement with carrier for first ammonia engine

Finnish technology provider and engine manufacturer Wärtsilä has just launched its first ammonia engine solution on the commercial market, and the first carrier has signed up to use it.

Wärtsilä has signed a letter of intent with Norwegian dry bulk carrier Viridis Bulk Carriers to purchase the new 4-stroke engine. This is according to a press release from the company.

The plan is for the two parties to be ready to sign an actual contract in early 2024.
