The major ports on the US East Coast looked set for big growth in freight volumes when the expanded Panama Canal opened last summer. But the effect has yet to materialize, writes SeaIntel.

The expansion of the Panama Canal in June 2016 has had a very modest impact on the aggregate freight volumes at the largest ports on the US East Coast, including the ports in New York, New Jersey, and Virginia.
